First Day of School

The boys started back to school on Sept 3rd this year. The older two were excited to go back and see their friends, many of whom they didn't see all summer. School here begins at 3 years old, and although I thought when I came I would never send any of my kids to school so young, we decided to send Piper off to school this year after all. It is a good opportunity for him to be exposed to French and other kids his age and it is a good opportunity for me to have my mornings free to pursue further French language sessions and conversations since my individual French tutoring has come to an end.

Here is a group shot on the way out ...

and another of my cheesey boys

Individual shots

Our oldest is in CE1 in the Ecole Primaire this year, equivalent to 2nd grade in the US.

CJ is in the Grande Section of the Ecole Maternelle, equivalent to K in the US.

Piper will be 3 in Nov, so he's included in the 3 year old class here in France. He's in the Petite Section of the Maternelle, so he goes to the same school as CJ, except he only goes in the mornings for now.

Group shot next to the schools. The maternelle and primaire are right next to each other, which is nice.

CJ in his class.

Piper only went for an hour and 1/2 the first day so they could ease the kids into school and let the teachers get to know them. So here he is waiting on the bench to go into school.

Piper playing in his room.

Piper did great the first two days. He was so independent and sure of himself. It was really hard for me. I cried the whole way home both days! The following week he decided it was more fun to stay home with Mommy (and I think reacting to the other crying kids as well), so he had some tears, but after a couple days he was happy to go in and stay.

They are all doing great in their classes this year. The older two are progressing in their French and easily able to keep up with the school work. Piper just plays and sings :) so he's doing fine, too. I'm excited to see him pick up some French this year as well!
