We actually set out to visit a natural rock bridge and some historic caves... but you know how it goes... or maybe you don't. The website didn't give an address, which is necessary for plugging into the GPS. So Kevin put the closest town based on the mapquest information. It led us to a small town in the middle of nowhere, about 20 km from the Rhone River, where the rock formation was supposed to be. hhmm. So we went to the Office of Tourism in the next town. Oh, sorry, they're closed for lunch from 11:30-1:30. Nice. So we went to the next town. They had a more realistic lunch period. 11AM-2Pm. So we looked in the windows, still couldn't figure it out and decided to hit the Safari, a mere 10 minutes away at this point!
Although not what we planned for, it was a good day and a fun place to visit.

The elephants are in a separate area right before the drive through safari part.
Then you load into your car and drive through several separate areas where animals are roaming and can come up to your car.

Of course Kevin got as close as possible.

Piper was screaming and crying as these guys rubbed their long horns against his window.. can you blame him?!

More wildlife...

more harrassment..."give us some spacce, buddy!"

This guy was just trying to sleep...

ggrrrr...

Reminded us of Yellowstone, buffalo all over the road.
After the drive through part, we parked and walked through the other section of the park, a regular zoo.

and my favorite, big cats.
Notice Piper's backpack. He started wearing this last Friday or so and has worn it since. All day, and even sleeps with it on at night. We only get it off him for a few moments during bath time. So funny. This day it was quite helpful, we put some hand wipes and bottles of water and let him cart our stuff around for us!

beautiful tiger

I know it's blurry, but I just love this picture, blur and all. It just makes it look like the tiger was running through the woods... or something like that.
So that was our day trip last weekend. This weekend we are headed up into the mountains to a retreat center with a group from church to spend time together and focus on prayer.

Haut Koenigsburg was our first ever castle in Europe. The boys were enchanted. We stayed for hours! When you were in Strausbourg did you find the cemetary with Froelich's grave?
The Safari looks like fun. You guys are not letting any grass grow under your feet on the weekends! Have fun

I'm assuming Kevin didn't leave the safari with any half-dead dear thrashing about in the trunk, right? -hp
