Drive back to Nairobi and a Day at the Mennonite Guest House

After our early morning drive, we had breakfast at the Kichakani camp and then packed up and headed back to Nairobi. Here's Kev and the boys with the Kichakani staff. They were truly kind and very accomodating.

The Masaii women carrying water back to their homes.

This woman was carrying a huge load of water and firewood. It definitely seemed that the women did the majority of the back-breaking work.

We were also fortunate to come across a large baboon group on our way out of the reserve.

Driving through the rift valley...

a common sight of an over-loaded vehicle.

And back to Nairobi and the Mennonite Guest house! Here is a final picture with Ken, our driver and safari guide. He worried us at the beginning of the trip, but he ended up being a terrific guide and driver. We did breathe a huge sigh of relief that the van made it back safely!

It turns out that Kevin's second cousin, Debbi and her husband, Aram, are the current managers of the Mennonite Guest house in Nairobi. So we were able to spend the evening with them and their family and also the next day until our flight left at midnight.

The kids had a blast playing together and it was fun for our boys to have some down time and some toys to enjoy.

Overview of the guest house area. I loved the huge trees and the shade they gave.

Debbi had amazing flowers all over the compound and in her yard. Here's just a few...

And fruit trees, too..

And a final shot of all the kiddos.

Thanks so much, Debbi and Aram, for your hospitality and for the great talks and book recommendations. Kevin loved reading 'The Bottom Billion', and we really enjoyed meeting you and spending the time with you and your children. We hope to see you again here or there or state side!
