Masai Mara Safari - Day Two Part 2

Can you believe two posts in a row?! Well, I had to finish up day 2 of our safari. We saw such a variety of animals in such a short time. It was hard to believe you just drive around and see these animals living in the reserve.

This is a topi, a type of antelope.

Cheetah taking a break in the shade.

Crocodile on the Mara River shore.

Hippos cooling off in the Mara River.

Piper hanging his arm out the window for bait :)

More hippos.

After visiting the river, we headed out to an open space to eat our packed lunches.

Warthogs with babies.

Hyena. We almost missed this guy, he was slinking along the side of the road. Unfortunately, when I asked the driver to stop so I could snap a picture of him (the 'roads' are way too pitted to take a picture while moving), our van wouldn't re-start... so we had to wait for the hyena to wander off so we could get out and push start our van. Good times. Ken, our driver, spent his evening fixing the van so we didn't have to push start it the rest of the trip. It's not too hard to imagine that after slamming that poor little van down all those crazy roads and then all over the reserve that a wire wiggled loose!

Ostriches, the largest bird in the world. The light one is the female and the darker on the right is the male.

More zebras, Piper's favorite.

More warthogs, eating. Did you know they kneel to eat?!

The iconic acacia tree on the savanna.

More elephants..

CJ loved the elephants.

Water buffalo babies are even cute.

A huge herd of water buffalo.

Baby elephants are even cuter.

Vultures. Decidedly not cute.

And a final water buffalo. I kept getting the Veggie Tales song in my head whenever I'd see a water buffalo (you're welcome!).

More pictures to come of our final day in the Masai Mara reserve.
