Masai Mara Safari - Day Three, Early Morning Animal Drive

Our third and final day began very early for a 6AM morning animal drive. The sun was just coming up and it was cool and beautiful on the savanna.

Getting ready to go...

This lovely hot air balloon was on the distant horizon... I think this is now on my bucket list!

This was Piper's 4th Birthday....not a bad way to spend your birthday!

We started off the morning with this cheetah.

Then a few giraffes and gazelles...

This impala was beautiful and even posed for me :)

Jackals are hard to photograph, they are so skittish.

But the best 'find' for the morning was this gorgeous mama cheetah...

and her 6 cubs! Here's one finishing breakfast.

Poor mama, she was just pacing around trying to keep them all in line while the safari vehicles shadowed her every move. She even had to pull a couple cubs back out from under a safari vehicle! I think she was hoping to do more hunting, but she didn't exactly have stealth going for her with 20 vehicles tagging along. I hope at some point in the day she lost her entourage!

The cubs were cute and playful and the boys really loved watching them.

We saw some other morning kills as well. This one was left for the vultures.

Here are the lucky ones that got away...

and presumably here was the predator.

At least she seemed happy and full.

A few zebras horsing around. Or is it zebra-ing around?

And last but not least, a waterbuck.

After our early morning animal drive, we went back to our tented camp and had breakfast and headed back to Nairobi. The drive out didn't seem as bad as the drive in, probably because we knew what to expect. That and Ken, our driver, didn't make so many stops and took us home on a different route that ended up on the better roads sooner. Final Kenya pics and post up next!
