So just a few more loose ends to tie up the end of March and early April. This is the group of guys that Kevin works with. We had them over for dinner on Saturday April 2nd, and first they met in the afternoon, drove up the Chartreuse mtns behind our house to Col du Coq, and proceeded to take Kevin on the VTT (mountain bike) ride of his life! I have to admit I was a bit nervous for him when 1) they fitted him up with a better bike and suited him up with body armour and 2) I admitted I was worried and one of the other guys said he was worried for him as well. Not so encouraging!

First they had to get through the snowy/icy parts...

and then a bit of a climb until they reached the part of the trail that says "Interdit aux VTT". I'm guessing even those of you who don't know any French can figure out that it's saying VTT is prohibited on this trail.

But to the average French person, that is simply a challenge. Here's a few of the guys posing under the sign to prove they have seen it and don't care ;)

I don't think these pictures do the steepness of the trail justice.

You can see the drop off on the left, this one is mild.

Just a tire repair.

Thankfully they all made it back without any injuries. Kevin did wipe out at the very bottom and just got muddy. The guys were awesome and we had a great time afterwards eating for 6 hours or so. I think we said goodbye to the last ones around 1:30AM! C'est la vie!

This year Piper plays, but last year he mostly ran around and picked flowers (weeds) for me :)

And I posted this on fb, but thought it could use a repeat. This is your typical French soccer mom. No, she wasn't coming from work or going out to a dinner... this is simply how they dress when they 'go out'. As in, out of the house... to get groceries, take the kids to school, take the kids to soccer practice, etc. The funniest part is that one of my fb friends actually recognized this woman and said that yes, she really does dress up like that every single day!

Also last spring, E started going to chess tournaments with a group from school. It's not a chess club, but just some of the kids from his school that enjoy playing. He really picked it up and can easily beat me every time (not too hard) and Kevin about half the time.

While chess isn't considered 'nerdy' here in France, I think this last picture may :) Just kidding, but this was our US geography project last year. We had friends and family send E postcards from the different states of the US and E would look them up, learn a little about them and write in the state name and capital and color the state. We actually just finished up over summer and colored in the last 5 or 6 states that we didn't get post cards from.
Special thanks to all of you who sent postcards for this project! It was a lot of fun and E learned a lot about US geography and hopefully remembers some of it!

A few other end of March/early April pictures. This is CJ playing soccer. It's not a great picture, but I think the view is amazing.
