A Week in My Life

It was cold last weekend and rained here, so it snowed in the mountains. Just another lovely glimpse from our backyard. The leaves are starting to change, so it will be even more beautiful in a week or so.

My ears are unplugged, the congestion has decided to stay in my head, however, and I can no longer smell. Kevin is ecstatic, but I think my chili was crazy spicy the other day because I couldn’t smell or taste properly.

Tuesday morning Piper screamed so loud in the supermarket and would not relent because I would not give him his way that I had to go home and finish my shopping in the evening, alone.

Tuesday afternoon CJ watched 101 Dalmations in French, he told me ‘I need to learn more French, Mommy.’ I probably should have watched with him, it could only help. Instead I sat through 2 hours of unrelenting French lessons. I’ve been doing that four days a week now and my poor brain is working harder than it has in years, probably since college.

Tuesday evening, not to be outdone, our oldest got in a wrestling match at AWANA. Nice way to start off the year. He did, however, name at least 3 or 4 friends he has made at school, so I’m thrilled at that progress. And they weren't all girls, Brin. :)

Wednesday was mostly uneventful, but Piper and I did have a showdown at dinner. I won, but he screamed for about 15 minutes straight, I’m sure the neighbors are wondering about ‘those Americans’. Sidenote: Only those who have experienced Piper’s screams in person can really appreciate when I say ‘he screamed’; it’s surreal.

Thursday morning I went to open the dishwasher and pulled the handle off the door. Just came off in my hand. I did not want to let Kevin get on his soapbox about our lousy Renault van, aka the Cacophony, and how poorly engineered it is, but for crying out loud!! Can’t I even have a decent appliance?? We are a little miffed at the quality of said French products.

Today after school we have a meeting with our oldest son’s teacher to see how he’s doing in school, and a tutor along to translate. It should be interesting.

After that we have a babysitter coming so we can go out and enjoy dinner at an awesome little French restaurant for our 11th anniversary. Yes, a babysitter!! I’m so pleased to have found a sweet American girl at our church who lives close and is willing to watch them. They have been here for 3 years, so she is also fluent in French, which makes her more qualified than us in case of emergency.

Wow, what a week! Screaming at the store, wrestling match, and 101 Dalmations in French...my life is seeming pretty tame right now!
I love reading about you guys and keeping up with how things are going - Thanks for posting!
