Christmas Trip Part II: Salzburg and Hallein, Austria

In Salzburg, we stayed at the Meierhof, which is adjacent to the Schloss Leopoldskron, where the 'Sound of Music' movie was filmed in part. The Meierhof is pictured below.
We had a lot of fun exploring the grounds of the Schloss.

This is the back of the house.

Standing by the lake where they overturned the boat and fell in on the SOM.

Inside the Schloss Leopoldskron wasn't too shabby, either.
We were served breakfast at the castle in this beautiful room.
Our first day in Salzburg we started in the old city.

The boys were fascinated by the canal system that runs these water mills.

Next, we took the Festungsbahn, a funicular railway, up to the Fortress Hohensalzburg, the largest preserved medieval castle in central Europe.

It was quite rainy and misty outside.
The fort has never been successfully attacked, so it is quite intact inside and out.

Family pic and view from the wall, the Schloss Leopoldskron is in the distance.

View of the Fortress from the city.
In the afternoon, Kevin took Ethan and Caleb to Hallein to visit a salt mine there.
It's a cheesey touristy tour, but the boys had fun.
Can touristy be used as an adjective before tour?

The mine is so large it crosses into Germany as well.

We also enjoyed Salzburg's beautiful Christmas markets and light-strung streets in the evenings.

This is one of the many streets we walked along on Christmas eve.
On Christmas day, we checked out some of the other sites in Salzburg.

This is Mozart's birthplace.

Mozart's residence.

The Mirabell Palace Gardens.
Do-Ra-Mi-Fa-So...sorry, Sheri, but you know we're all singing it in our heads anyways!

Ethan begged to use my camera, so we started letting him take some pictures.

He did a pretty good job. Here's a few he took of me.

Kevin thought this needed a label. This is Mozart's statue, if you can't read the 'Mozart' on the base.

Piper was quite tired by the end of most days. Merry Christmas and sweet dreams, Piper.
The day after Christmas was a beautiful sunny day, so we took a few more pictures before leaving Salzburg.

This one makes me sad, they are growing up way too fast!

A final view of the Fortress Hohensalzburg from the Schloss Leopoldskron.

Cant wait to hear all about it! What is the deal with no snow again at Christmas in Saltsburg? It looks like you had as great a time as we did, though, anyway, and you seem to have quite a bit of snow opportunities at home.
We did the same Lichtenstein detour! Tell me more :)
Happy New Year
