Lyon, France

We went to Lyon last weekend since we have never been to the city, just flown in and out of the airport. It is about 1 1/2 hours from our house. It is the second largest urban area in France, second to Paris. Lyon is also known as the French capital of gastronomy.

This is a view of the city from the western hill, the Fourvière, and the site of the Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica.

Inside the Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica.

After looking inside, we headed part way down the hill to some Roman ruins. There are two theatres on the hillside from the Roman era.

The boys had fun running up the steps.

Piper was a little slower. Give him about a year, and I'm sure he'll be in the running.

We played a little hide and seek again. The boys immediately started playing when they saw the Roman ruins, I guess so far they haven't forgotten our trip to Rome!

Again, poor Piper was left out.

Poor Piper. He scribbled with crayon all over my floors yesterday, so I'm not really too sad for him at this moment! I guess at least it was only crayon and my floors are tile and clean easily.
After the boys wore out, we drove into the old town in Lyon. This sculpture is on the way and we thought it was unique.

CJ and one of several lions in Lyon. This is the lion at the Maison de Avocats, a large inn and historical building in the old town.
We decided to just pick up an early dinner at a bakery and skip a long, late and formal dinner since the boys were tired. Maybe next time!

Loved the Lyon photos. That is where we got Jonathan's first guitar, via French ebay from a student at the University there. Next time you go, try a meal at at Bouchon (yup! Cork!) You all just arrive and they keep squeezing you into all the available tables and you partake of a family-style meal. It was one of our favorite experiences and the boys still remember the owner of the restaurant bringing out the huge box of fresh prunes that had not been steeped in liquor for one of their desserts as he would not let them eat the steeped ones :). They were huge and sweet! and the guy loved doing it! Did you get to see all the tromp de oiux (trick of the eye--I think I spelled eye wrong) murals on the buildings? If you didn't, it will be fun to look for them if you go again.
