Brugge, Belgium

The first week of spring break (yes, we get two, but don't be too jealous, we also have to go to school through June!) we went to Belgium and Holland, and stopped in Koln (Cologne), Germany on the way home. Our first stop was Brugge (Bruges), Belgium.

This was a small church we parked near, so we went inside.

I forgot to take a picture of note the name and it is not one of the more touristy churches, but it was lovely inside.

This is the Markt, or Market Square.

The Belfry of Bruges.

View of Bruges from the Belfry, you can see St. Salvator's Cathedral from this view.

The Belfry has a carillon, which allows the bells to be played by the keyboard shown below.

Carriage ride through the Market Square.

Canal view with the Church of Our Lady's spire in the background.

Another canal view with the Belfry in the distance.

Market place.

City Hall.

Bruges was a wonderful city full of beautiful scenes along the canals and quaint streets. We enjoyed our morning there, then headed up to Holland. I thought this picture of the old and new windmills side by side was a perfect picture of Europe's past and present, always thrown together.
Next post - the beautiful Keukenhof Gardens of Holland!
