Last Stop - Switzerland!

After our stop in Germany with Mom's relatives we headed to Switzerland. The original intent was to have Kevin meet us there with the boys and spend a day in the Interlaken area together. Unfortunately, our van decided to have fuel injection problems, again, so he was stuck at home without a working vehicle.

We headed down to Luzern, Switzerland on Friday afternoon and toured around the city a little. This is the famous Lion Monument, which is a monument to the Swiss mercenary soldiers who lost their lives while serving the French King Louis XVI during the French Revolution. The inscription above the lion reads "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss" and the names of the soldiers are engraved below along with statistics of the death toll during the war.

We walked around the old town of Luzern. Here is the famous Chapel Bridge, the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe dating back to the 14th century.

View of Luzern along the Reuss River.

Some questionable fashion in Luzern...

and a really great band playing along the river. We stopped and ate dinner at some street vendors set up nearby and listened to these guys for a while. They were really talented and amazing to listen to.

Final view of Luzern...

We spent the night in a quaint town between Luzern and Interlaken and woke up the next day to the warmest day we had on the trip and the sunniest as well. It was a perfect day to go up a mountain.

View of Lake Sarner near our hotel.

View of the beautiful Swiss pastures on our way up Mount Pilatus via the world's steepest cogwheel railroad.

The view from the top. Unfortunately, Mount Pilatus seemed to attract all the clouds in the area, so we didn't have very good views. We spent a little time hiking around and then headed back down to check out Interlaken.

A beautiful lake along the way...

The same lake viewed from a road above.
We stopped in Interlaken long enough to hit a couple tourist shops and get some souvenirs, then headed back home to France! The final pictures from my family's visit to come...
